Hello All: The ones with Super Powers live right here among us. April's smile reveals the power and identifies the ones who hold it. Humanity is fortunate that is almost always used for the greater good. Enjoy. Doug
Amazon This month’s smile starts with Amazon, the river not the on-line behemoth of the same name. You can tell the difference by how they started. One started by selling books on-line, and the other as mountain rainwater flowing downhill. Deep research (e.g. Google) revealed the river’s original, European name was “Maranon”. This changed in the 16th century when explorer Franciso de Orellana was attacked by local tribes led by “woman warriors”. Being a well-read explorer, Orellana naturally made a connection between the “woman warriors” and the Greek mythological female tribe of warriors called “Amazons”, and the name stuck. I give this bit of history to help raise our 21st century awareness of the” woman warriors” that still live among us. The superpower of these women is revealed when they find the need to use their dreaded “mother’s eye”. It’s a look that a child recognizes when they instantly realize they are about to meet their maker well before they are ready. No words are spoken, and no physical contact is made, but whatever that child is doing at that moment stops. I personally learned to recognize the “mother’s eye” as a child and saw it often as a pastor performing weddings when beautiful, young, flower-flinging children would freeze in mid-step after seeing that “look”. Again, no words spoken and no contact made, yet a message is received and action stopped. I believe part of the reason society has survived this long is due to the “warrior women” living among us. My mom was a “warrior woman”, and if you know the “look”, your mom is one too. I might also mention that our children know they too have a “warrior mom”. Moral: There are definitely times when the “eyes” have it. |
