From The Storyteller

Hello All: This month's smile comes out of remembering how good things can happen. Enjoy, Doug
Road Trip “Boy, am I glad we made this trip”. Me to Elaine as we settle into our home bed after a 2200-mile road trip to the “Badlands” of North and South Dakota. The week before, CNN announced the Aurora Borealis should be visible in North Dakota. I felt a divine “nudge”, and thirty minutes later we had agreed on a road trip that included the Badlands National Park in South Dakota, the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, and the Medora Music Festival also in ND. At 77 I’m enjoying my life with all its pieces. Pieces include family, grocery shopping, laundry, writing stories, texting, hundreds of social media friends, and a cyber world that was thoughtful enough to update me on the 10 things I “must” know about Taylor Swift’s new tour. All this, and yet those great feelings we shared after the trip had me wondering - if I’m enjoying my daily routines so much, how could a week connecting with nature add so much more satisfaction to my life? Naturally this reminded me of the words from a Don William’s 1980 song, “Ain’t it amazing that miracles happen”. The song’s “miracle” is about how two seemingly different people found each other, and this instantly made me smile. I acknowledge I have two amazing “miracles” active in my life. First, and best, Elaine, my life partner. The second, almost as good, is that divinely empowered “miracles” keep happening – our “nudged” surprise trip being just one example. The answer to the "how" question appeared like magic when I simply recognized my “nudges” came by way of a divine hand. Moral: Enjoying life can include mostly comfortable everyday routines, but also some salt, pepper, spices, and ice cream. Responding to “nudges” allows for both. BTW: No Aurora Borealis sighting to announce. |
