Hello All: While heat and July go together, I felt bringing more heat with a fast burn smile would be a poor choice. So here is a thoughtful knowing smile that might help cool things off. Enjoy. Doug
Shoes Twelve individuals from differing backgrounds and levels of formal education were at a meeting, and I was one of them. Not overly engaged in the conversation taking place (read here mind wandering) I happen to focus on the shoes we were wearing. There were flip flops, boots, bare feet, and the typical running/walking/hiking styles twelve pairs with none looking similar. This of course reminded me of Billy Crystal’s SNL character Fernando and his comment from Fernando’s Hideaway, “Remember darling, it's not how you feel; it's how you look” and thinking about the difference between women’s high heels and my comfortable western style boots. Just thinking about standing in five-inch heels makes me break into a cold sweat, yet I think nothing about wearing a three-pound leather cowboy boot on each of my legs. Which naturally caused me to smile as I think about how good those boots feel and how much I like the way they look. I remember how glad I was to find them in my size, and even though they cost more than I had planned to spend – I bought them. Because Elaine is not a five-inch heel person, asking her about the truth in Fernando’s comment is not a true test. Which brings me to the question I pose to you who might know: Do those who wear five-inch heels find they feel good as well as look good, or is Fernando right? Here I feel the urge to say, “I’m asking for a friend”, but that would be a lie, and this week I’m practicing not lying (doing that one week at a time makes it easier). Moral: When you notice something, you never know where it might lead. |
