Never
Roughly 12 years ago Elaine and I bought our home in Harlingen, TX. After moving often, as United Methodist preachers do, I saw this home purchase as my place to settle down and enjoy life (which we really did for 4+ years). What I told folks when we bought the house was “The next time I move it will only take six men and a box”. Today I’m sharing with you, my Sounding Board members, that this coming Easter week, we will be moving from Lawrence, Kansas to Navasota, Texas. Move number three after my “six men and a box” declaration. We are leaving Lawrence with a real sense of sadness. We have come to love the folks at the Delaware Street Commons where we live, and the Lawrence community is a great place to live. The reason for our move is “Family”. It was the positive reason we moved to Kansas, and it is the positive reason we are moving back to Texas. Reality is children move, grandkids grow up and take on adult lives, and siblings age and develop health issues with which a pair of extra hands can help. I’m smiling because our move appears to be both timely and important. Elaine and I are both healthy enough to make it without obvious risk of “death or dismemberment”, and for us, when it comes to moving – smile and “never say never”. Moral: Circumstances change and flowing with them is a good thing. |
