Hello All: May you be blessed in 2021 with smiles, hope, and most importantly love. I set before you my personal plan for 2021. Enjoy. Doug
Stamps “You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream” is a quote attributed to C.S. Lewis. This being the last story for 2020, sharing my last “Ah Ha” moment from this very interesting year naturally caused me to think of this quote and postage stamps. My last Christmas mailings needed more than the 10 “Forever Stamps” left from a roll I bought for several years ago. That roll of 100 cost $50. The new roll of 100 cost $55. My first reaction was typical “Doug”, and it bordered on sounding like a complaint about the prices of things always going up. Being a little self-righteous, it also made my act of mailing the cards proof of what a great person I am. This line of reasoning stopped abruptly however, when I remembered the purpose of mailing the cards was to bring smiles to the faces of people I love and care about. I found myself actually thankful I have more than 10 friends to send cards to, and the nickel extra per stamp suddenly became unimportant. This caused me to think about how I might make 2021 a better year for myself and the people I am connected to. Naturally this led me to the observation that I really do find myself smiling when I receive written cards and notes from family and friends, and this gave me a new dream for 2021. My dream and new goal are to bring more smiles into the world by regularly (at least twice weekly) mailing a friendly card or note to folks, reminding them I’m thinking good thoughts about them. Because I smile when I’m writing the notes, and people smile when they’re received, I get two new smiles with every mailing. Moral: It feels good to have a dream and a new goal. |
