Ride
Okay, maybe it wasn’t smart to spend that extra two hours at the end of the day, in our open garage, in 91-degree heat with 96% humidity. Yes, wearing clothes soaking wet from sweat at the end of the two hours was uncomfortable. No, I didn’t particularly enjoy spending hours in the ER to correct my acute dehydration, rather than in my bed asleep. On the brighter side, my poor choice prompted our oldest daughter to call concerning my mental health, considering how "un-smart" my actions were (my word is dumb). Another bright spot was having Elaine there by my bedside, while I was being treated for something I could have avoided. Still another positive result of my poor choice was meeting and interacting with the great people, who work the late-night shift at the Baylor Scott & White ER. The ambulance ride was notable (my lifetime 2nd) and just as rough as the first one. The EMT’s were most helpful in getting me safely to the ER with Elaine following close behind. Note: If you’re going to make an ER run, based on my two experiences, plan for a Thursday - either early morning or very late at night because they’re not busy. Without a doubt the most difficult result of my poor choice adventure was the ride home from the hospital. Because Elaine drove, I was free to repeatedly think about the results of my “great” decision to finish that last job. Love is a wonderful thing, and what makes it even better is not once being reminded of how stupid you can be, by that person who knows you best. Moral: Sometimes tasks are better left for tomorrow. |
